PNC 2025 100 Years of Ford Australia - XA Falcon 1972
XA Falcon 1972
We are pleased to mark 100 Years of Ford Australia with this specially crafted Ford XA Falcon GT Hardtop 1972 2025 Base Metal Coin.
In 1925 the Ford Motor Company of Australia Limited (known as Ford Australia) was founded as a subsidiary of the Ford Motor Company of Canada, with headquarters in Geelong, Victoria. On 1 July, in an improvised factory in a converted wool store, the first Australian-built Ford vehicle was completed. The company built a permanent Geelong factory that produced various models over the years, and in 1956 opened a second complex in Broadmeadows, which became its headquarters in 1961. Ford manufacturing in Australia ended in 2016. Ford Australia continues to lead design and development of the Ranger utility and Everest SUV models, and imports vehicles for Australian buyers.
The best-known Ford in Australia was the Falcon, with more than 3.5 million vehicles produced here between 1960 and 2016. Originally based on an American design, over the decades it was increasingly adapted to Australian conditions. The XA Falcon was the first fully locally designed Falcon when launched in 1972. With a powerful V8 engine and bold design, it became an Australian cultural icon.
The coin’s reverse presents an illustration of the XA Falcon GT Hardtop - 1972. As well as the inscription “100 YEARS OF FORD AUSTRALIA 2025”, the reverse also incorporates the “Ford 100 Years” logo.
