Struck during a time of major economic and political transformation, these Silver 8 Reales coins from the First Federal Republic of Mexico (1851–1897) reflect the rich history and intricate craftsmanship of the era.

The obverse features Mexico’s iconic national coat of arms: an eagle perched on a cactus with a snake in its beak, encircled by the legend República Mexicana. The reverse bears the famous Libertad radiant cap design, along with the denomination, mintmark, assayers’ initials, date, and silver fineness.

Coins were issued by various regional mints including Mexico City, Chihuahua, Durango, and Guadalajara, among others.

Each piece has chopmarks - Asian characters or symbols punched by oriental merchants and bankers to confirm the coin’s silver content and authenticity in foreign trade.
