Australia’s main contribution to the battle of the Somme in mid-1916 was the capture of Pozières a small village that commanded the high ground towards Thiepval. Between July and August Australians had suffered a staggering 26 000 casualties.
Also struck by the Royal Australian Mint this cupro-nickel 50 cent uncirculated is encapsulated on a presentation card with a mintage of 15 000.
